Unveiled: Our Class Novel

As part of the transition activities in July, all the pupils in 5AC voted for their favourite book based only on an edited blurb.  The mystery books were wrapped up tightly and sealed to hide their titles and covers.

Today, the class got to break the seal and see which book won.  We finished the day with some story time.

“I love it so far!  It’s so full of mystery and suspense.”

“This is the type of story that just makes you want to read more and more.”

Mystery Experiment…

On entering the classroom this morning, the pupils were excited to discover an odd sight in the corner of the room.

Their task: to work out what on earth was going on!  They were fantastic detectives, showing off their scientific vocabulary while debating what the experiment might be.

This afternoon they explored evaporation and condensation as a means of separating solutions.

Calculating Perimeter

Today’s maths challenge was to find the perimeter of shapes with missing lengths.  Pupils worked together in groups with peer experts leading the discussion, first colour-coding the sides and then using the bar model to help work out the missing lengths.  Some quick column addition and, hey presto, perimeter calculated!

Road’s End Writing: Newspaper Reports

As part of our module on newspaper reports, 5AC watched a fantastic and mysterious short video called Road’s End from the Mystery Shed on the Literacy Shed website.

They discussed what they thought was going on in lots of detail, then worked together to plan a newspaper article based around the main event.

With the class plan for support, they wrote their own articles.  A few examples of what they produced are included below.
